Hi All,
Welcome to the 2011 version of the Power House Rowing Club's attempt on Henley Royal Regatta. On this blog, we'll try our best to keep those interested up to date with how and what we are doing on the water over in Oxfordshire. Please feel free to pass the link on to anyone else you think may be interested, I don't have a lot of email addresses these days.
For those who don't know, last year PHRC contested the Britannia Challenge Cup for club coxed fours and made the semi-finals. This year, for a variety of reasons, the decision has been made to tackle the Wyfold Challenge Cup for club coxless fours. Unfortunately, this means that our loyal and talented coxswain, Nicole Grant, is not with us this year.
The last 12 months has seen much training and racing, with a new look crew heading to the UK tonight. After much trialling and an exceptionally close selection process, the race crew is...
B - Drew Holman
2 - Conrad Tulloch
3 - Sam Bailey
S - Shane O'Connor-Smith
Coach/Manager/Reserve oarsman - Nick Andreou (Hatsy)
Coach-in-absentee - Nicole Grant
Unfortunately, 5 into 4 does not go, but we are immensely fortunate that Hatsy is with the crew. His vast rowing experience, general savvy and current exceptional form in the boat make him absolutely invaluable to this attempt, particularly should anyone suffer injury or illness.
I'll leave the specific thankyous for a later blog (there are many), but for now can I just say on behalf of the whole crew, thanks to all of you, particularly our fellow PH rowers/coxes/friends, who have been so supportive and understanding of the crew over the last many months. We do appreciate it and we will be trying our best for all of you.
That's enough for now, Shane, Hatsy and myself are boarding a plane shortly. Conrad is already safe in London and Sam will be joining us after his exam in a couple of days. I'll update in 48hours or so once we are ensconced at Henley.
Cheers, Drew
Goodluck to you all. Hope you have a fabulous time and get the results you are after. Cheers J
